Giampaolo Scatozza is a drummer-producer who has worked with industry greats as Paul Young, Tom Jones, Mica Paris, Dez’ree, Ruby Turner and Mariah Jones. He was a member of the legendary Trevor Watts Celebration Band and Watts’ Moire Music Group for nearly six years, travelling the world and receiving spectacular reviews. (“Giampaolo Scatozza … provides incredible tight funk grooves that give the reed players all sorts of foundation for their various voicings” - Canadian Jazz Magazine.) As a producer he has worked on the BBC’s perennially-popular Holby City series, as well as for commercial giants such as EMI and Ministry of Sound.
Originally from Rome, Scatozza’s love of the drums began at an early age; he learned to read and write music at the age of six, and started on a snare drum at around the same time. By the age of twelve he had graduated to his first drum set, and his early teachers and mentors include the great Peter Erskine and Trilok Gurtu. Later, whilst attending the Universita della Musica in Rome, he studied privately under Derek Wilson, Horacio Hernandez and Enrique Pla.
His family has always been incredibly supportive of his choice of career, "My family just encouraged me to be happy, to really do what I wanted to do." By the mid-nineties, Scatozza had moved to London, where he continues to carve out a reputation in the capital as an exciting musical talent and producer.
