Andy Davies Quartet – Getting Giggy Getting Giggy is the second offering from London-based jazz project The Andy Davies Quartet and, as with their eponymously-named debut, delicate threads of the musical greats run through this cut-glass, musical gem. Funded through the Peter Whittingham Award and recorded in Italy, the album features an international and critically-acclaimed line-up, with Ivo Neame on piano, Reinis Axelsson on drums, Lorenzo Bassignani on bass and Andy Davies on trumpet. The band performs original music composed by the talented Davies, whose influences range from Rachmaninov to Radiohead, through Dvorak, John Taverner and Borodin, paying homage to American jazz legends Woody Shaw, Dave Douglas, Tom Harrell, Chet Baker and Ralph Alessi. Influences of Hard Bop, Celtic Music and British Folk music feature in each of the eight compositions, all which have been performed at some of the top music venues and jazz festivals around the world over the past two years, to ecstatic reviews.
